This year my husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage and 15 years together. We figured that was quite the accomplishment and decided to go on an epic adventure somewhere warm and tropical. After extensive searches throughout the entire caribbean on Airbnb, we stumbled upon a little oceanfront apartment on a long, yet skinny island called Eleuthera, in the Bahamas. I was really hesitant to go, although the white sand beaches looked amazing online. The Bahamas never really appealed to us, it just seemed so touristy. But just hop on a tiny and terrifying little plane will get you to the island of Eleuthera, and worlds away from any tourist trap you might find in the Caribbean. Long white and pink sand beaches stretch endlessly with not a soul on them. It was a true getaway. We felt like we had the whole island to ourselves.
If you’re in Central Eleuthera and have a car, you must visit the Leon Levy Plant Preserve , a conservation and preservation reserve that was located a short walk from our place. I would’ve paid to go more than once if we had more time on the island. A rental car is a must, as public transportation is non existent. Also, you would never be able to explore all the hidden beaches if you didn’t have one.
We’re already planning our next trip back, it won’t be our last. Contact me about wedding opportunities in the Bahamas! It’s now on my wish list of destination wedding locations.
